# In The Darkness

The air was sprinkled with droplets of
     raw heat.
The sun had exploded and now shining
     balls of fury no bigger than
     eyes were raining down.
No one died and a lot of people cried,
but in the end we were no worse off.
who would have thought life would
     go on without the sun, just
     as before.
Scientists pondered, poets wrote, presidents asked
     priests prayed, and the
     children played
in the darkness.
